Maalinta iska warran - How was your day?

If you want to ask someone how their day was, you can use the phrase, 'Maanta iska warran'. 'Maanta' means 'today'. 'Iska warran' means 'tell me about it'.

Maanta iska warran? - How was your day?
Waa nabad               - It was ok.

In fact, you can just use 'iska warran' to ask someone how they are, or for news about them.

  1. Dear Mitsurugi,
I stumbled across your Blog on the internet and it has been very helpful and inspirational to me. I am working with Somali refugees as a volunteer and we have a language barrier. . . I am saying goodbye to them in August and I was wondering if you would want to help me with translation my 'farewell letter' from English to Somali... Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
    Peace and blessings,
